Large Dissolution Quartz Crystal 3.5 in or 9 cm Long- Serra Do Cabral, Brazil- Hydrothermal, Parallel Corrosion Lines, Resistant Heart- HB5

Detailed here is an amazing hydrothermal etched quartz crystal from the Serra Do Cabral Mountains in Brazil. These are newly found and directly imported from the mine. Hydrothermal etching occurs when terminated crystals are subjected to various high temperature (and sometimes acidic) solutions. These high heat solutions will melt and etch the exterior of the crystal by breaking the molecular bonds of the crystal lattice. Variances in temperature, duration of exposure, ratio of silica, and acidity levels will create a variety of formations/ etchings on the crystals surface. Also differences in the thermal resistance of bonds within the crystal lattice can expose geometric forms. In this way, hydrothermal etching is a 'reverse building' of the crystal structure, and follows the formations of the bonds of the crystal lattice. This unique and rare process creates a multitude of planes, faces, crevices, and dynamic formations which reveal a blueprint story of how the crystal originally formed. Some crystals will even be etched, and later re-healed/ continue to grow.
Crystals etched in this manner are quite rare as conditions must be just perfect. Exposure time cannot be too long or the crystal will melt to an unrecognizable form. For example, some crystals from this pocket still hold their hexagonal symmetry and original termination planes; while others are 'hearts' of the original crystal- completely etched with unique texture and planes.

These crystals grow in very dynamic, changing environments. Exposed to high temperature water solutions at times, and stable growth conditions at others. These crystals are perfect tools for trauma healing, self discovery/expression, and dealing with abrupt life changes. The synthesis of the integrated / geometric forms of the crystal lattice and the chaotic flow of the imprint of the melting solution reminds us to change, adapt, and heal under life's pressures. The contrast between rigid geometric planes and flowing edges is quite unique, and brings to mind the duality of the universe. Etched crystals are said in lore to be encoded with a variety of information. Many of these crystals display trigons, record keepers, and unique textures. The incredible, and detailed textures can be hard to capture fully on camera, and these crystals truly come to life in person. Observing the various forms, and processes that have create them, has taught us about the growth/ formation of quartz more than working with any other crystal.
