This listing details a selection of the Colombianite stones to choose from. These beautiful gems are from the Cauca River of Colombia. There is a 1cm cube for size reference, and labeled with the item number that corresponds to the menu. Each selection in the drop down menu correlates to a single stone shown in the labeled grid. You will receive the exact stone selected from the menu that is shown in the photos. Colombianite was originally discovered by the Muisca Tribe, who hold them to be sacred. They refer to them as "Piedra Rayo" which translates to "Stone of Lightning" or "Light Stone". These beautiful gems are still being studied and fully understood. Two main theories exist surrounding the origins of Colombianite. Some theorize them to be tektite or impactite glass- fused in the fires of a meteorite impact. They have even recently discovered a crater to support this theory known as the Cali Crater. The Cali Crater is located in the Cauca Sub-Basin between the Western and Central Colombian Cordillera, SE of Cali. Some researchers claim chemical analysis of these amazing glasses shows higher than usual levels of Aluminum and Titanium. They call these tektites Calitites (after the Cali crater), and estimate their age somewhere around 3 million years old (the Pliocene Age).
The other widely accepted theory claims that these are a unique form of weathered obsidian. In this model Colombianite stones are the ancient remnants, or 'hearts' of grandfather obsidian boulders. The last remaining gems of their 'species'. Natural glasses which have gone through many states of decomposition and recompositing over millions of years. Regardless of their origins, they are stones of wisdom and transformation. Millions of years old, their energy is calming, empowering, and transformative.
Their translucency and ability to capture natural light are unparalleled among the family of natural glasses. They appear black when set upon a surface; however, when held near a light source for examination, they will capture even small fragments of light to become illuminated. Fairly indirect light will even dance within the interior of these stones. Their round shapes and decent size make them perfect for holding in the palm. Ideal for meditation and reki practices, they are said to clear negative energy and illuminate areas of the shadow self for healing. Colombianite is truly ancient, mystifying, and wonderful.

*** A small note: H15 has a fully enclosed internal bubble. This is a quite rare formation, and fascinating to imagine the air inside is millions of years old. It is like a time capsule for the Pliocene Age!
