Huge Saffordite Cintamani 101.2 Grams "Cintamani Stones" Arizona, USA- Semi Sphere, Beautiful Mineralization Patterns- Translucent- AH2

This listing details a rare, extra large Saffordite Cintamani Stone directly from the Senora Desert in Arizona. This stone is translucent with a slightly weathered exterior. It is a beautiful (almost perfect) sphere shape. The surface shows slight mineralization and ancient weathering patterns. There are areas along the ridges of the pitted surface where mineralization was (weather or water) worn away to reveal the glass beneath. Small, smooth chipped areas that give this piece a unique texture and slightly glisten as turned. These amazing stones appear black, but reveal a smokey burgundy red when held to direct light. The color of each varies depending on light source, but most display a rich amber hue. This stone in particular is reminiscent of a glowing ember when illuminated, and creates a unique effect when viewed from multiple angles. This lighted effect would make this stone perfect of a lit display, or lighted turn table. The large size and overall shape of this stone truly make it a perfect centerpiece to any collection. Saffordites are surface collected, with large stones above 30 grams rarely being found. In the near decade we have been working with these stones, we have only seen a handful of this size. They are wonderful for reki and held in the hand for meditation. The beautiful shape also displays well in a small sphere holder. This is a natural stone, so some small imperfections from the millions of years of weathering may be present. The origins of this Arizona Desert Glass are still being debated. The prevalent theory states that they are the most ancient remnants of terrestrial obsidian from lava flows or 'Grandfather Volcanoes'. While others theorize their formation was influenced by a meteorite impact- making them tektite or impactite glass. The community all agree however, that at an estimated 35 million year age, Saffordites are among some of the oldest natural glass remaining on the planet. We continue to research these amazing stones to learn more about their storied past. Regardless of their origin they are both beautiful, mysterious, and rare. They capture and play with light like no other stone, and truly have a unique energy of their own- beautiful, intriguing, and ancient.
