This listing details an amazing, rare Billitonite Tektite. These amazing, opaque glasses come directly from the Island of Belitung, Indonesia. Tektites were formed by the processes of a meteorite impacting with the ground, fusing particles of sand and trace metals. The force of these objects throw droplets of this molten material high into the limits of the outer atmosphere and beyond. The droplets then rain back down to earth. This cosmic event, known as the Australasian Impact, happened approximately 780,000 years ago in the Bay of Tonkin. Tektites from the Australasian impact are scattered throughout Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and as far as Australia; however, Batu Satam, Billitonites are very special and rare to find.
Very few of these amazing stones make it to market outside of Belitung. We feel honored to be able to offer them. What makes Billitonite tektites particularly special is their distinct lustrous surface, and intricate spiral/U-shaped patterns. Billitonites were discovered in deep alluvial shafts by miners in search of tin. This gives a clue to their unique scrolling patterns and glossy/enamel-like luster. One theory for their amazing formations states that the process of vitrification, cooling, and reheating upon reentry causes cracks within the glass droplets (imagine pouring ice cold water into a hot glass). After the tektites have landed and become buried over time, these cracks are then exaggerated as acidic-tin laced water trickles around them in the ground.
The locals of Belitung Island revere this stone as having mystical properties. These amazing tektites hold a special place, and are thought to help us purge ourselves of ills. It is also said to help protect from negativity. Perfect for any meditation or reki work. They are wonderful to hold in the hand, and the high relief, textured patterns have a way of taking the eye on a journey. They are rarely found, and very difficult to source. We feel so fortunate to be able to offer these amazing stones. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions about the specifics of this piece.

I ship through USPS First Class Mail in order to offer low cost shipping. Unfortunately, this service is highly variable on shipping times, and is inconsistent in tracking international. Typically packages can arrive anywhere from 10-30 business days or longer. Although First Class is my default shipping method I highly recommend upgraded shipping for express shipping times, guaranteed tracking, and insurance. Please contact us with any questions you may have or to request the use of Fed Ex or UPS services.
We can customize according to just about any request. Feel free to contact us in regards to combining shipping or to request custom parcels, specialty orders, or whole sale availability.
Safe and responsible packaging is one of our main priorities. We package every order carefully inside a high quality reinforced shipping box. Each item is wrapped individually in fresh paper towels and bubble warp. We appreciate you recycling and reusing our package material in order to keep our carbon foot print low.
